The Sport Climbing Toolkit

We've spent much of the summer in town this year, enjoying several of the good local sport crags. As such, I've gotten my sport climbing systems fully dialed, and present to you my Sport Climbing Toolkit.

Cutting Off Your Own Arm

I’m about 3 quarters of the way through Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston (thanks @AudreyisAjoure ) when I found out that the story is about to be released as a film, directed by Danny Boyle. It’s a difficult story to imagine as a film, and even harder when you try to picture it with the Danny Boyle magic done to it, but I’ve got faith it’ll be a good execution (I’ve got doubts that it’ll go mainstream though). Jon can just be seen right of the top of the grass slope, heading toward the obvious hole in the cliff. (The corner on the right is Into the Groove which has unfortunately suffered rockfall and has a big barbed wire fence hanging down it) Me on pitch 2 getting pumped and cheating - ...

ExWeb special on Everest 2010: The autumn of the solo climbers.

Image from Google Two climbers are currently aiming for the second solo climb of Everest after Messner’s (bagged in 1980): Spaniard Alberto Zerain via the Hornbein Couloir, and Japanese Nobukazu Kuriki by climbing up from Nepal. They’d better hurry up if they want to keep their goals untainted though, since further teams will soon be on their footsteps: [...]
